Mercedes-Benz has significantly updated the GLA compact crossover for the 2028 model year, introducing not only a new design but also substantial changes inside and under the hood. The GLA will be available in both electric and hybrid versions, with two electric variants: the GLA 250+, which produces 268 horsepower, and the GLA 350 4Matic Electric, which offers 349 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds.

The electric models are equipped with a nickel-magnesium-cobalt battery with a usable capacity of 85.0 kilowatt-hours, and they boast a range of up to 657 kilometers according to the European WLTP standard. The hybrid version features a newly developed turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor integrated into an electrified eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, though specific horsepower and torque figures have not been disclosed.

The 2028 GLA is larger than its predecessor, with a wheelbase extended by 2.4 inches to 109.8 inches, a 0.8-inch lower stance, and a 1.2-inch wider rear track. These changes result in increased legroom, particularly for rear passengers, who gain 1.5 inches more space. The exterior design has been completely revamped, with the GLA Electric featuring a new grille design with a chrome frame and illuminated surround, while the hybrid model comes with the star grille.

The crossover also sports new sheet metal, updated headlights, and a taillight design that highlights its width. It offers a range of wheel sizes from 18 to 20 inches, with options like the AMG Line and Night Edition providing unique trim, wheels, and interior accents.

The new GLA is expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships in the second half of 2027 as a 2028 model.

While Mercedes has not yet released pricing information, it is anticipated that the new GLA will start in the mid-$40,000s, similar to the current gas-powered 2026 GLA 250, which begins at $42,850 including the destination charge. Pricing details are expected to be announced closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date next year.
