The Honda Passport Is Going Baja Racing
Honda is targeting the 2027 Score Baja 500 with 1,300 horsepower and a full Trophy Truck build.
Honda Racing Corporation is taking a name from the showroom floor and strapping it onto something with 1,300 horsepower. The Honda Passport Baja Spec is a purpose-built Trophy Truck aimed squarely at desert racing's toughest class.
HRC USA will unveil the truck at a private event in downtown Los Angeles on October 29, 2026, before it heads to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas for its first public showing. The timing lines up with a bigger goal: a run at the 2027 Score World Desert Championship.
1,300 Horsepower For Trophy Truck Racing
The Passport Baja Spec borrows its name from Honda's two-row midsize SUV, but the resemblance stops at the badge. This is a race truck engineered for the Trophy Truck class, the top tier of desert racing where chassis, suspension travel, and raw power matter most.
Honda has confirmed the truck is rated at 1,300 horsepower, but has not disclosed engine displacement, configuration, or transmission details.
2027 Honda Passport TrailSport
Honda Racing Corporation has also confirmed that two-time Baja 1000 winner Bryce Menzies will drive the Passport Baja Spec once it hits competition.
Menzies' presence signals HRC is not treating the Trophy Truck program as a side project. The effort fits Honda's broader push to use the Passport's TrailSport image, which already got a serious off-road upgrade in the 2027 Passport TrailSport that began arriving at dealerships in late September 2026.
When Will The Honda Passport Baja Spec First Race?
The Passport Baja Spec's competition debut is set for the 2027 Score Baja 500, scheduled for June 2027. That event marks the truck's first appearance in a race that counts toward the Score World Desert Championship standings, the series Honda is specifically targeting with this build.
Before any racing happens, the public gets two chances to see the truck in person. The first is the private Los Angeles reveal on October 29, 2026, followed by its public debut at the 2026 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, running November 3 through November 6.
That SEMA appearance at the HRC booth gives enthusiasts and media their first unfiltered look at the truck outside a controlled studio shoot. It also puts the Passport Baja Spec alongside other wild builds that regularly show up at the show, including trucks like the 1,000-horsepower Nissan Patrol that turned heads there previously.
