The proud owner of a new Buick Enclave isn’t as excited about giving free advertising to the dealership where she purchased the vehicle. That’s why she says it’s a good idea to take the dealer’s tag off first thing.

TikTok user Mandi (@mfalgoo) shares her advice in a video posted on July 24. “So what’s the first thing you do when you get a car?” she asks to start the video. “Let me show you what I do.”

She goes to the back of her new Enclave and peels the “Classic: Beaumont, Texas” tag off.

“You find the dealer’s tag and you take that crap off,” she says. “And you just buff that out. They didn’t pay me to advertise. Nope.”

In the comments, viewers debated Mandi’s advice on dealer tags. Some agreed, others said they go even further, and some disagreed with the principle.

“I make them take them off before I leave the dealership,” wrote one person.

A second person agreed. “Dealer stickers and licence plate frames will be removed from my new car by the dealer,” they wrote. “That is part of the deal. If the dealer won’t comply, then I take my business elsewhere. So far, all the dealerships honored my wishes.”

However, one person said they think this is overkill.

“I love how people complain about this but will buy shoes, glasses, and clothing with a manufacturer logo,” they wrote. “They aren’t paying you either.”

Someone said they do avoid clothing with logos. “I’m the same with most everything including clothes,” they wrote.

Removing the Dealer Sticker

Your new car might come with a decal on the window or a plastic emblem mounted to the back of the vehicle. In which case, you’ll need to approach removing them in different ways.

In the comments, viewers said they’ve accidentally damaged their car’s paint job when doing this.

If you’re determined to do this yourself, Car and Driver has some recommended protocols to avoid damaging your car. For stickers, you soften the glue using soap, a hair dryer, and a card or razor. The outlet suggests using heat and dental floss to remove emblems. Soften the adhesive with glue, thread the floss behind the emblem, and pull it free.

In both cases, you can use an adhesive remover to take off any remaining gunk from your windows and paint. Wipe the area with a microfiber cloth and you should be good to go.
