Contrary to what other Chinese car manufacturers are doing, Omoda and Jaecoo, a group belonging to Chery, have decided to enter the European market with different types of power supply.

After the petrol Omoda 5 - now also available as an all-electric version - the brand presented the Jaecoo 7, which follows the combustion version with a plug-in hybrid version called the Jaecoo 7 SHS (Super Hybrid System).

Omoda and Jaecoo call it the 'Super Hybrid' and say it will set new standards in the plug-in hybrid category.

Over 800 mile range

Let's start with a few figures. The Jaecoo 7 PHEV Super Hybrid promises an all-electric range of 106 km (65 miles) and claims an average fuel consumption of 4.7 l/100 km (60 mpg) according to the WLTP cycle. With a battery powering both the electrics and the petrol tank, this means the Chinese SUV can cover 1,300 km (808 miles) before having to stop at a petrol station or tank.

  • Combined range 808 miles
  • Electric range: 65 miles
  • Claimed average fuel consumption: 60 mpg

Omoda and Jaecoo's plug-in hybrid system represents the culmination of a hybrid powertrain development path begun by Chery 20 years ago. It uses a 1.5-litre TGDI Miller cycle engine combined with two electric motors powered by an 18.3 kWh battery placed centrally under the floor.
