VW delivered around 4.8 million vehicles worldwide in 2024
The Volkswagen brand remains the market leader in Europe and Germany
Despite difficult conditions, the Volkswagen brand handed over around 4.8 million vehicles to customers worldwide last year (-1.4 per cent compared to the previous year). According to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), VW remained the clear market leader in Germany with a market share of 19.1 per cent.
Martin Sander, Volkswagen Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales: "2024 was a difficult year worldwide with a weak economy, political challenges and strong competition - especially in China. Nevertheless, we are starting the new year with optimism. This is because we have attractive products and fulfil the needs of a wide range of customer groups with our broad and diverse model range across all drive types."

Like almost all brands, VW recorded clear losses in electric cars in Germany, with only the ID.3 remaining reasonably stable at around minus ten per cent. Since the launch of the ID Family in 2019, Volkswagen has sold a total of over 1.35 million ID. vehicles worldwide, including around 500,000 ID.3. Last year, Volkswagen sold 383,100 BEV vehicles.
In Germany, Volkswagen was also the clear market leader in 2024 with a KBA market share of 19.1 per cent. The top ten most popular vehicles included five Volkswagen models: the Golf, T-Roc, Tiguan, Passat and Polo. Volkswagen's share of new electric car registrations was 16.3 per cent, an increase of 2.8 percentage points compared to 2023.
Here are the delivery figures for the regions worldwide:
Europe: 1,254,500 deliveries (1.7 per cent down on the previous year)
South America: 479,400 deliveries (21.1 per cent up on the previous year)
North America: 592,300 deliveries (18.4 per cent up on the previous year)
China: 2,198,900 deliveries (8.3 per cent down on the previous year)
SUVs remained in high demand in 2024, both with conventional drive systems and as fully electric variants. Their share of total VW deliveries was 47 per cent (+ 1.4 percentage points compared to 2023). The brand's most popular SUV and best-selling model was once again the Tiguan.
Followed by the T-Roc, over 2 million units of the compact crossover model have been delivered worldwide since the sales launch in 2017. Volkswagen will launch the next generation in 2025.
The Polo, whose first model generation came onto the market 50 years ago, is also a cause for celebration this year. The small car is still very popular around the world today: Volkswagen has already delivered more than 20 million models. In Brazil, for example, 172,510 Polos were handed over to customers last year, more than ever before.
