Nio's new crossover coupe is called ET9
It hides 12 innovative technologies and a new 900 Volt platform. It is unclear whether it will ever arrive in Europe and at what price
The Nio ET9 made its debut in China, the fruit of more than 10 years of research and development by the Chinese manufacturer. It is a large crossover coupe, representing the new flagship of the range and the pinnacle of engineering in the eastern country.
Deliveries in China will start in March 2025 and we still don't know if it will also arrive in Europe.
A big crossover coupé
Starting with the exterior, the new Nio ET9 is nothing less than a large electric crossover coupe. Its shape closely resembles that of its main competitor, the Tesla Model X, so it has a rather sleek roof and rear, but with a much lower height.
The lines, more generally, have been designed closely resembling the company's other models and enlarged to accommodate larger battery packs and offer more space on board, especially for those sitting in the back.

Designer interior
Just like the exterior bodywork, the design of the interior has also been conceived to combine elegance and functionality: a feature achieved also thanks to the many technologies we mentioned in the introduction.

Noteworthy among these are the new Lightful Welcome lighting with a 2-square-metre exterior light carpet, the Sky Island and Executive Bridge packages - designed to create up to four exclusive spaces for privacy and comfort - and the comfort seats with 582-mm-wide cushions, total heating, and 16-point 'hot stone' massage.
In the rear there is also a 360° adjustable Executive table for working, reading or presenting documents and an integrated electric refrigerator to ensure a true mobile office experience.

In terms of infotainment, the operating system is called SkyOS and is the first in the world entirely designed to be installed in a vehicle. Among its innovative features are high-performance computing power and data communication, integration with artificial intelligence to improve driving, cockpit and safety, and coupling with the SkyRide driving systems, i.e. three cutting-edge technologies on a Chinese car: electronic steering (Steer-by-Wire), steerable rear axle and integrated active suspension.

Advanced mechanics
The Nio ET9 is the first Chinese car certified for mass production with electronic steering, which is a key element in pioneering new advanced autonomous driving systems.
In addition to this, in terms of architecture, the car is based on an innovative 900 Volt platform that, at least on paper, should allow it to accept a maximum recharging power of 600 kW, when the DC columns will allow it, a value that in turn should allow the large 120 kWh battery to be recharged in just a few minutes. There are two motors, one per axle, for a total power output on the only version presented so far of 707 PS.
The Europe hypothesis
The Chinese manufacturer has not yet gone into details about a possible arrival of the model on the European market, although this would not be entirely excluded. In China, meanwhile, deliveries will start in March 2025 and the car will go on sale with an equivalent price of around £90,000.
