Ford has introduced a convertible version of its new Dark Horse SC, marking the first high-performance soft-top Mustang in over a decade. This model features Ford’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, delivering 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that powers the rear wheels. While the engine and transmission are identical to the coupe, the convertible distinguishes itself with unique suspension tuning, including MagneRide dampers, special springs, and sway bars, designed to enhance its grand touring capabilities rather than lap times.
The Dark Horse SC convertible is built on the GT convertible platform, with Ford adding a magnesium tower-to-tower brace for increased rigidity. To accommodate the soft-top roof’s different aerodynamic profile, engineers made subtle modifications, such as extending the hood vent’s trailing fin edge and designing unique rear wing stanchions. These changes ensure the convertible maintains the same profile and attack angle as the coupe, albeit without gurney flaps. Additionally, the convertible will offer new color options for the exterior, brake calipers, and interior details, including the new Precision Purple color that shifts in the light.
Ford plans to release pricing for the Dark Horse SC convertible later, with order books expected to open this fall and deliveries starting next spring. The 2026 Ford Dark Horse SC coupe is priced at $108,085, including the destination charge, and the convertible is anticipated to be more expensive.
