The second-generation Nissan Kicks is set to debut in Japan on June 18, featuring a hybrid powertrain that is not available in the United States. This new model will be equipped with Nissan’s third-generation e-Power hybrid system, which includes a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that acts as a generator for the battery powering the electric motor. This marks the first time Nissan is offering the e-Power powertrain in the Kicks model in Japan, along with the e‑4ORCE electric all-wheel control technology and a revised suspension.
In contrast, the US version of the Kicks is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 141 horsepower, and is available only in front-wheel drive. The Japanese market Kicks will also offer the same engine output in its front-wheel-drive configuration. The vehicle will be available in four trims: X, X+, X Simple Package, and G, with the G trim being the top-level option featuring gloss-black bumper finishes, while the other trims come with distinctive dimpled cladding along the bottom.
Inside, the Japanese Kicks boasts dual 12.3-inch displays, enhancing the driving experience. The hybrid-powered version of the Kicks is priced at ¥2,999,700, which translates to approximately $18,723 at the current exchange rate, making it more affordable than the US model, which starts at $24,275, including destination charges. This pricing strategy highlights the differences in market offerings and consumer preferences between Japan and the United States.
