Renntech is undertaking a unique project to build 12 reengineered Mercedes-Benz SECs, each crafted to order. These vehicles will be equipped with the powerful M120 V12 engine, which is also found in the Pagani Zonda and the Mercedes CLK GTR. This naturally aspirated 7.5-liter V12 engine delivers an impressive 660 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, paired with a bespoke manual transaxle. The engine is constructed entirely of aluminum and includes equal-length headers, while the stopping power is provided by carbon-ceramic brakes concealed behind forged two-piece wheels.
In addition to the upgraded engine, each SEC will undergo a comprehensive frame-up restoration, ensuring that the vehicles are restored to their former glory. The cars will also feature a widebody kit designed to improve aerodynamics, cooling, and high-speed stability. This enhancement not only boosts the performance of the SEC but also gives it a more aggressive and modern appearance. The SEC, originally built by Mercedes from 1979 to 1991, was available in sedan and coupe body styles and offered a range of engines, including inline-five, inline-six, and V8, but never a V12.
Renntech plans to deliver the first SEC 12 Widebody in December 2027. This project marks a significant departure from the original SEC offerings, as it introduces a V12 engine that was never part of the original lineup. The SEC’s evolution into a high-performance vehicle with modern engineering and design elements highlights Renntech’s commitment to blending classic luxury with contemporary power and style.
