The BMW M3 Touring GT race car, initially unveiled as an April Fool’s joke last year, has now become a reality due to the overwhelming public response. BMW decided to produce and race the car at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in May, following the enthusiastic feedback to their playful concept.

The race wagon shares its technical foundation with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO, featuring BMW’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that delivers up to 590 horsepower. The primary distinction lies in its exterior, which boasts a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic body shell designed to resemble a wagon.

BMW began planning the race version of the M3 Touring shortly after its 2022 debut and later orchestrated the April Fool’s joke with professional renderings for its April 1, 2025, reveal. The positive reception led BMW to officially greenlight the project in August, with development commencing in September. The car is currently undergoing validation before competing in the SPX class, separate from BMW’s M4 GT3, and will subsequently embark on a tour.
