Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new electric van, the VLE, which is set to make its mark in the United States alongside its presence in China, where luxury minivans are popular. The VLE is built on Mercedes’ Van Architecture platform and was initially previewed in 2025 with the Vision V concept. The production version retains many design elements from the concept, such as the greenhouse shape and dual power domes, but replaces the solar panels with a panoramic glass roof. The van features an illuminated grille, star-shaped daytime running lights, and a standing star on the hood, with a drag coefficient of 0.25.
The VLE lineup will start with the VLE 300, equipped with a 272-horsepower electric motor, followed by the VLE 400, which boasts a 409-hp motor and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. Both models will offer all-wheel drive through a rear electric motor activated when needed. The van is powered by a 115-kilowatt-hour nickel-manganese-cobalt battery with 800-volt technology, providing a range of over 434 miles on Europe’s WLTP cycle and the ability to add 221 miles in 14 minutes. The VLE features Airmatic air suspension and up to seven degrees of rear-wheel steering, resulting in a 35.75-foot turning radius.
Inside, the VLE is designed for versatility and luxury, accommodating six to eight passengers across three rows, depending on the configuration. Mercedes offers three center console options, including a compact one with wireless charging and a larger, temperature-controlled unit. The dashboard features a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14.0-inch infotainment screen, and a 14.0-inch interactive passenger panel. Rear passengers can enjoy a 31.1-inch 8K display for entertainment, complete with an 8.0-megapixel camera for conference calls. The van also offers Roll & Go seats, electrically adjusted seats, three-zone climate control, and a 22-speaker Burmester 3D Surround Sound System.
Mercedes-Benz emphasizes the VLE’s cargo capacity, claiming up to 28 cubic feet with three rows of seats. However, final specifications, including market-specific details like price, power, and capacity, will be released closer to the launch. The VLE represents a significant step in Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle lineup, combining luxury, technology, and performance to cater to the demands of the electric van market.
