The Mitsubishi Montero, the legendary off-road vehicle of the 1980s and 1990s and winner of the Dakar Rally, could make a comeback for the 2028 model year. Some spy photos show a new model undergoing testing, but it is not yet certain whether it will arrive in Europe.
The design of the new Montero, previewed by our render and inspired by the Destinator concept, retains the boxy, rugged style of the historic models, with vertical LED headlights, a large front grille, and a vertical rear window.
The new Pajero could use the CMF-C/D platform, shared with Nissan and other Mitsubishi SUVs. This leaves two possibilities open: a ladder frame for pure off-road use, or a monocoque for more road use.
In Europe, a hybrid, full hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrain is very likely.
