‘I Loved Everything About It But Its Reputation:’ Woman Buys Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Then It's Immediately in the Shop For 2 Weeks
"Everyone tries to warn people and they buy them anyway."
A woman recently bought a Jeep Grand Wagoneer just for it to end up in the shop for two weeks shortly after buying it.
I Loved Everything About it But its Reputation
The original post shows Iris Elyssa (@iris_elyssa) celebrating and dancing when she finally gets her car back from the shop. The celebration is cut short after realizing she needs to reinstall her car seats in the heat while pregnant. “If you’ve never reinstalled two car seats pregnant, don’t,” she shares.
One of the comments on the original post recommends returning the Jeep Grand Wagoneer to avoid future issues. “Take it back and get you a non-Jeep. You will thank me later…” they wrote.
Elyssa makes a TikTok response to the comment. She starts out by sharing that she may already regret buying the Jeep Grand Wagoneer based on a number of issues she has already had.
“I’ve had the car for 35 days and it’s been in the shop for two weeks on two separate occasions,” she shares.
The creator once again expresses her frustration with installing toddler car seats in the heat while pregnant.
“It’s horrible. The A/C isn’t working,” she shares. She says she took it to the shop, and the mechanics told her it was a problem with the water pump, which they fixed.
The trouble doesn’t end there, though. Elyssa also had issues with her car not starting up, and the battery needed to be replaced.
Within two weeks of buying the car, she had to replace the water pump and get a new battery.
“I really hope that’s it,” she concludes.
Are Jeep Grand Wagoneers Reliable?
The Jeep Wagoneer is a full-size SUV with a huge three-row interior, impressive towing muscle, and off-road capabilities, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) reports. The starting price for the Grand Wagoneer begins at $62,040.
Repair Pal has rated the Jeep Grand Wagoneer a three out of five stars for reliability. Nothing to brag and rave about, but it is still higher than the average.
According to Endurance Warranty, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer has had problems with the engine, heater, and A/C.
Drivers have reported that the rapid coolant temperature fluctuates with the engine, leading to an overheating warning. One driver shared how the car completely shut down while driving on the highway. Another driver from Wagoneer Fans shared how the heater takes 45 minutes to heat up.
Car enthusiasts have taken to forums, including Reddit, to debate whether the Wagoneer is a bad investment. “There is a reason the Grand Wagoneers have depreciated so much,” one Reddit user shared.
“People buy on looks and never think about reliability,” a TikTok commenter said.
“Everyone tries to warn people and they buy them anyway,” another added.
“A grand Wagoneer over $100k girl that thing better works like no other car. And if it even blinks the wrong way, return it,” a third suggested.
What Recalls Have Jeep Grand Wagoneers Had?
The following recalls include issues with the rearview cameras, airbags, and seatbelts, according to Repair Pal.
2022-2024 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneers were recalled in 2023 because the backup camera may not display the video feed when the transmission is placed in reverse, Consumer Reports shares. The issue was caused by a software problem.
Over 44,000 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer 2022-2023 models were recalled for airbag issues. The interior trim caused issues with the side curtain airbag's proper deployment. A compromised airbag affects driver and passenger safety and increases the chances of injury during a crash.
In 2023, Jeep parent company Stellantis recalled more than 97,000 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs from the 2022-2024 model, KBB reports. This recall involved the third row seating seatbelts. The recall specifies that the seatbelts “may have been built with third-row seat belt buckles that are inaccessible or damaged.”
