‘Don’t Feel Comfortable Allowing You:' Colorado Woman Tells Discount Tire She Can’t Afford Tires. Their Reply Is Shocking
"I am in literal disbelief."
This worker refused to let a woman drive off the lot. It’s not what you think, however. This is one of the few times when something is, in fact, not too good to be true.
Content creator Kate (@kate_5280) shared the shocking true story of events that happened during her recent trip to Discount Tire.
“I am in literal disbelief and just so beside myself,” Kate begins.
She explains that she went to her local Discount Tire to get the tires on her Jeep Wrangler rotated because she puts a lot of miles on them. Kate says she lives “out in the boonies” and has to drive into the city regularly to teach her indoor cycling classes.
Before doing the rotation, the mechanic inspected the tires on her Jeep Wrangler and told Kate that the tires were worn out to the point of needing to be replaced.
“They’re just not safe for us to rotate,” he told her.
“Mind you, he tells me this and I’m like pissed,” Kate says.
She wasn’t mad at the man, but at the circumstance.
Kate says she’s in the process of buying a house, so not only does she have limited funds at the moment, but when you’re buying a home, you’re not supposed to make any major purchases. Tires can cost a pretty penny.
Kate tells him that she’s going to have to pass for now—especially since she has a family friend who could sell her the tires at cost and she’d rather give them the business—but asks him to put together a quote.
Then she steps outside to talk to her mortgage company. While sitting on hold in her Wrangler, Kate says she saw a Discount Tire guy come over.
At first, she’s annoyed, thinking they’re going to try to keep selling her on tires she already said no to. She was shocked by what happened next.
An Offer She Can’t Refuse
The person who went over to Kate introduced himself as the manager and purportedly told her he didn’t feel comfortable with her driving away with her tires in such bad condition.
“They’re not that bad,” Kate insisted.
The manager went on to say that he also has a Jeep Wrangler and has a specific set of tires he loves.
“I wanna give you a pair, and by pair I mean a set of four,” she says he told her.
Kate was stunned. “My jaw hit the floor,” she says.
“I want to give you four tires today, no cost to you. I want to make sure you’re safe, that’s my number one priority,” he clarified.
Still in disbelief, she asked him what the catch was. Did she have to come back and pay for them later?
The manager said no.
“I just couldn’t sleep at night knowing we had somebody who had tires that weren’t great … and they couldn’t do it because of the timing of their life,” he reportedly said, referring to the process of buying a house.
“This is my gift to you.”
He then took Kate’s keys and assured her she’d have four free new tires in the next 10 to 15 minutes.
In the video, Kate shows that her gray Jeep Wrangler is now equipped with new tires.
Kate shared that she’s been going to Discount Tire for years and was especially appreciative of this recent experience because she and her partner have been taking a lot of “negative and hard blows” with the housing process.
“It’s been kicking us in the teeth for months now, and this was just the little bit of kindness that I didn’t ask for … and it just shows me that good things do happen. Just keep rolling with the punches and blessings will occur,” Kate says.
“I am so grateful.”
People were equally wowed by the Discount Tire manager’s gift to Kate.
“All Discount Tires are the same way. They are really great people,” one person said.
“You BETTER NEVER go anywhere else EVER. What a great manager and store!” another wrote.
