Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new electric van, the VLE, which is set to make its mark in the United States alongside its presence in China, where luxury minivans are popular. The VLE is built on Mercedes’ Van Architecture platform and retains many design elements from the Vision V concept, which was previewed in 2025. These include a greenhouse shape, dual power domes on the hood, and a panoramic glass roof replacing the original solar panels. The van’s exterior features an illuminated grille, star-shaped daytime running lights, and a standing star on the hood, with a sleek 0.25 drag coefficient.
The VLE lineup will start with the VLE 300, equipped with a 272-horsepower electric motor, followed by the VLE 400, which boasts a 409-hp motor and can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. Both models will feature an all-wheel drive option, activated when needed, and a 115-kilowatt-hour battery with 800-volt technology, offering a range of over 434 miles on Europe’s WLTP cycle. The van’s Airmatic air suspension, enhanced by Google Maps data, optimizes efficiency, while its rear-wheel steering provides a 35.75-foot turning radius.
Inside, the VLE offers versatile luxury seating for six to eight passengers across three rows, with various configurations and wheelbase options. The interior features a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14.0-inch infotainment screen, and a 14.0-inch interactive passenger panel. Rear passengers can enjoy a 31.1-inch 8K display for entertainment, complete with an 8.0-megapixel camera for conference calls. Additional luxury features include Roll & Go and electrically adjusted seats, three-zone climate control, a head-up display with augmented reality, and a 22-speaker Burmester 3D Surround Sound System. Mercedes plans to release final specifications, including pricing and capacity, closer to the van’s launch.
