A mechanic is working on a 2024 Chevrolet Traverse with a leak from the engine to the transmission. He’s stunned when he finds loose bolts are the culprit. What happened here?
Facebook creator Just Rolled In, who reposts mechanic clips from across social media, posted a video about the incident discovery recently. "Fluid leaking from between the transmission and the engine," the creator says to start the video.
The mechanic takes the camera around the vehicle’s transmission and shows viewers how loose the screws on the bell housing are. "These bolts were left loose from the factory. Thirteen thousand miles," he says.

In the video's comments section, viewers discussed the potential cause of the loose bolts and the state of Chevrolet.
One viewer joked, "You know ole boy was mad this was the cause. He called that car by its full government name. Chevrolet Traverse—not just Chevy."
"These bolts are tightened with a mechanical fixture that’s calibrated by Engineers and Skilled Trades workers to a specific torque rating," a second person said. "The line worker has no control over it."
A third person said, "I work at a Chevy dealer and my co-worker just had the same exact condition about a month ago."
And numerous commenters told the mechanic to check for a bulletin. "There is a bulletin," one person wrote.
Chevrolet’s Service Bulletin on Transmission Fluid Leak Near Torque Converter Housing Area
The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse was indeed part of a March General Motors service bulletin that discussed reported transmission fluid leaks. The bulletin also impacted certain model years of the Blazer, Equinox, and Trailblazer, as well as several Buick, Cadillac, and GMC models.
The bulletin notes that technicians reported transmission fluid leaks coming from the torque converter housing. That is potentially related to the transmission pump bolts that left the factory under-torqued. Chevrolet will take the affected vehicles, replace the loose bolts, and then reinstall the transmissions.
Reddit users discussed the bulletin in a thread posted to r/ChevyTraverse nine months ago. The original poster said her 2025 Traverse Z71 with less than 3,000 miles on it had a major transmission fluid leak caused by loose bolts. She expressed frustration because she didn’t receive an estimated time frame for having her vehicle repaired.
"Yep, there’s a whole bulletin on it," wrote one Redditor. "The hard part is the bolts are most likely on national backorder."
A second person said, "Mine is in the shop right now. A bad torque converter leaked all the transmission fluid all over my driveway. The part is on back-order and I have a loaner. I’ve had it for almost five months, and it’s been in their shop for almost 25 percent of the time I’ve owned it."
