These Two BMWs Aren't Real. We Wish They Were
The M2 Dakar and M3 Touring GT3 Evo are just cruel April Fool's Day pranks from BMW.
April Fool's Day hasn’t been the same since the whole "Voltswagen" fiasco four years ago (remember that?). But a few automakers still take the opportunity to have some fun and celebrate the occasion via their official channels.
BMW didn’t hold back this year. The Bavarian automaker attempted to trick fans into thinking the company had two new vehicles coming soon: A BMW M2 Dakar and an M3 Touring Evo race car. The renderings were posted on BMW's official Instagram accounts, and honestly, both of these vehicles should be real things.
The M2 Dakar has everything you want on an off-roader: A raised suspension, wider fender flares, new bumpers with better approach and departure angles, and knobby tires. It even has a roof rack for the spare tire, auxiliary lighting for those dark trails, and skid plates to protect the 473-horsepower inline-six engine.
The coupe looks even stubbier sitting so high off the ground. But if Porsche and Lamborghini can turn their 911 and Huracan models into capable off-road coupes, BMW should be able to do the same with the M2. Even just a limited-run production would be fantastic, and the automaker could easily recoup costs by giving it an equally high price tag. Just a thought, BMW.
The brand's M Motorsport division teased the M3 Touring GT3 Evo on its Instagram account. The wagon has a race-inspired body kit with extra vents, a rear diffuser, and a massive roof wing hanging off the back. It has front fender vents and intakes on the rear doors for added sportiness.
Sadly, these vehicles are just renderings and nothing more. We won’t see either car enter production. But given the position reception for both in the comments sections, BMW should just build the damn things. Please?
