BMW tuning enthusiasts know the name AC Schnitzer well, one of the tuners with the longest historical ties to the Bavarian brand BMW. Based in Aachen and founded in 1987 by Willi Kohl and Herbert Schnitzer, the tuner has become over the years a benchmark for those who love more extreme and customized versions of the German automaker’s cars. Together with Alpina, later transformed into a true automaker, it has been one of the most important names in the world of BMW-focused tuning. After nearly forty years in business, and after expanding its lineup to include kits for Mini, Land Rover, and Toyota models as well, the company may now be close to shutting down. News that hits enthusiasts hard, who grew up with its builds characterized by widened fender flares, large alloy wheels, and eye-catching aerodynamic elements.
