Porsche is looking beyond the 911 with its newest concept. Dubbed the Mission S, the mid-engined supercar previews the brand’s future design direction and lays the groundwork for an entirely new super sports car platform—one that could eventually become a permanent part of the Porsche lineup.
Porsche isn’t saying what sits beneath the Mission S’s skin just yet. But the concept draws from the automaker’s most iconic road and race cars, with clever bodywork and a thoroughly modern cabin featuring analog gauges.
The company hasn’t announced a production version or timeline, but it’s clear the Mission S is more than just a styling exercise.
Inspired By The Past, Designed For The Future

The Mission S looked to icons like the 911, 959, 917, and GT1 for its design. Its low nose, torpedo-shaped fenders, and rounded headlights take those familiar design cues and redesign them for the modern age.
Porsche calls the design approach "Floating Volumes"—surfaces and bodywork that seemingly hover above the vehicle itself. It’s most noticeable at the rear, where the so-called "car-in-car concept," inspired by the Porsche GT1, wraps around the engine.

The mid-engined layout helps give the car its stunning proportions, while a single continuous line connects the front and rear lighting elements, tying the entire design together. An active rear wing sits above the "car-in-car" section, blending neatly into the bodywork.
Look through to the engine bay, and you’ll find fan-like cooling elements inspired by the legendary Porsche 917. The lightweight wheels, meanwhile, take their cues from the Porsche 928.
As CEO Dr Michael Leiters notes, the goal of the Mission S was to be "recognizable as a Porsche at first glance." Mission (S) accomplished.
Long Live Physical Controls

The Mission S’s interior is just as dramatic as its exterior. Rather than filling the dashboard with screens, Porsche went with a minimalist layout that puts the driver at the center of the experience.
The cabin, unsurprisingly, takes inspiration from early Porsche sports cars like the 550 Spyder and 356. Two defining lines run across the dashboard and continue into the doors, creating a cockpit-like environment that wraps around the driver.
Five round analog gauges sit behind the steering wheel, with an analog-style rev counter front and center. Digital displays are still part of the mix, but they sit behind the analog instruments, creating a unique 3D-like effect. As Porsche showed in the teaser video, the gauges can also change position depending on the selected drive mode.

Physical buttons and switches play a major role in the cabin, along with new push-pull controls for comfort and driving functions. Porsche has even reworked its Sport Chrono clock, combining analog and digital elements once again.
One thing you won’t find is a dedicated center touchscreen or passenger display. Instead, the Mission S has a retractable smartphone holder with Apple MagSafe technology. Drivers can simply use their own phones for navigation and other information when they need it.
The cabin’s white, gray, and red color scheme also pays tribute to Porsche’s motorsport heritage. Specially developed finishes further connect the interior to the brand’s racing history.
A New Flagship For Porsche

The Mission S is the first part of Porsche’s broader "Sportwagenschmiede '35" strategy. Tobias Sühlmann, head of Style Porsche, says the concept demonstrates a design direction the company plans to carry over into future production vehicles.
Porsche hasn’t provided any technical specs, performance figures, pricing, or even a production timeline for the Mission S. It also hasn’t confirmed which models could eventually emerge from the new mid-engined platform. One thing we do know is that these vehicles won’t be electric.

Still, the Mission S gives us a pretty good idea of what Porsche could have in store for the space above the 911. The automaker has already confirmed that it’s exploring a new family of high-performance sports cars that could eventually sit at the very top of its lineup.
For now, the Mission S remains a vision of what could be. And honestly, it’s a pretty beautiful one.
