Mitsubishi rolled its Pajero Rally Concept onto a stage in Ralliart red, parked it next to a Triton ASXR rally truck replica, and let the crowd imagine a Dakar comeback. Then a company executive quietly ruled it out.

Kunitoshi Itagaki, Mitsubishi's chief product specialist, gave the blunt version reporters were waiting for. There is no Pajero Ralliart production plan to announce. The company is only studying whether one might eventually happen.

Pajero Rally Concept Brings Back Ralliart Looks

The regular Pajero returns as a body-on-frame SUV built on a Triton-sourced ladder frame architecture. Mitsubishi pitches it as a flagship cross-country SUV rather than naming a direct rival. Its turbodiesel 2.4-liter makes 201 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and Super Select 4WD II.

Mitsubishi officially unveiled the fully redesigned Pajero at its world premiere on September 2, 2026. Initial launches are planned in Thailand, then Japan and Australia during fiscal 2026, with expansion to around 100 countries from fiscal 2027.

The Rally Concept, wearing Ralliart's bright red livery and displayed beside the Triton ASXR truck, is a styling study built to evoke the Pajero's Dakar past rather than preview a new performance model.

Itagaki underlined that point, "We have no specific project or Ralliart model to announce at this time," adding that Ralliart's heritage "is really important for us" even without a confirmed program.

Mitsubishi president Keisuke Kishiura focused on that heritage instead of new hardware, pointing to the Pajero's Dakar Rally record of 12 outright wins. It is a strong flex for a nameplate that just came back.

What The Concept's Accessories Actually Show

Strip away the Ralliart badge and the concept is mostly a parts-bin exercise. It has front and rear fender extensions, a custom C-pillar cover, red skid plates, and a snorkel, all bolted onto the standard Pajero body instead of a different chassis or engine.

Regional reports quoting Itagaki describe these pieces as bolt-on accessories for the standard truck and note that Mitsubishi is considering offering similar parts through official channels. The company has not detailed a confirmed catalog or ordering process.

Mitsubishi has not confirmed other powertrains yet. A hybrid variant is widely expected to join the diesel eventually. For now, the new Pajero's launch details center on that single turbodiesel setup and the ladder frame.

Buyers curious about the Pajero's broader model lineup should expect Ralliart to stay a styling cue until leadership approves a full program. The accessories on the concept hint at what could reach dealers if Mitsubishi follows through.

Motor1's Take: The concept lets Mitsubishi tap Ralliart interest without committing to a performance model. It gives the brand time to measure demand through showpieces and accessory sales. If dealers list the bolt-on parts as official options, that will signal intent to sell the look. Watch for an official kit rollout and any hybrid additions.
