Dead: Lexus LC
The luxury sports car ends production after the 2026 model year.
The Breakdown:
- Lexus has confirmed it will end LC coupe and convertible production at the end of the 2026 model year.
- Lexus discontinued the LC Hybrid last July.
- The sports car first went on sale for the 2018 model year.
Pour one out for the Lexus LC. The company confirmed that it will discontinue it V8-powered coupe and convertible following the 2026 model year. In an emailed statement to Motor1, a Lexus spokesperson told us:
‘The Lexus LC 500 will officially be discontinued after the 2026 model year. Lexus constantly evaluates its model mix and strategy to optimize product lineup options to meet our guests' needs and align with consumer demand.’
Lexus unveiled the sports car, based on 2012’s LF-LC Concept, at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. Production would begin in 2017 for the 2018 model year. The Lexus LC convertible would debut a year later in Detroit.
The LC debuted with a 5.0-liter V8 engine making 471 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. Lexus also offered a hybrid version, pairing a 3.5-liter V6 with two electric motors for a combined output of 354 hp and 369 lb-ft, but the company only sold 251 examples over its life before being discontinued after 2025.
The standard LC wasn't exactly a big hit, either. Even in its best year (2021), Lexus only sold 2,782 units, with fewer than 1,300 examples finding new homes in 2021. With the hybrid meeting its maker late last year, we knew it was only a matter of time before the entire LC line was discontinued, too.

Motor1’s Take: It’s sad to see the Lexus LC go, but it’s not a surprise. The automaker is readying a new sports car, the GR GT, that it will sell through its Lexus dealers, and sales for the coupe and convertible were never that high.
