The BMW M2 is Getting a Street-Legal Track Package
Teaser images preview the coupe wearing partial camouflage and a huge rear wing.
The second-generation BMW M2 is only a couple of years old, but the automaker is already working to expand the lineup. BMW unveiled the M2 CS in May, just a month after it revealed the M2 race car. Now, the German automaker is teasing a street-legal Track Package for the high-performance coupe.
Details are light, and according to the Instagram teaser, the package won’t arrive until sometime next year. The photos showcase a Sao Paulo Yellow coupe with its front and rear sections camouflaged. BMW even covered the massive rear wing that you can’t miss.
It’s difficult to discern any other huge styling changes. The front lip looks more prominent, and it may feature redesigned intakes, but it resembles a typical M2 at the bumpers.
However, other changes are likely hiding underneath, like suspension tweaks, chassis improvements, and better brakes. The M2 packs BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that makes 473 horsepower, and even more in the M2 CS, and BMW might have a few upgrades that squeeze a bit more power out of the car.
In BMW’s Instagram post, the automaker says the new M2 will be “pushing BMW M Performance parts to the limit.” That makes it unclear if BMW will offer this as a package or as individual upgrades you can pick and choose. Or why not both?
We’ll know more sometime next year.
