Ineos presents portal axle Grenadier at the FAT Ice Race

The prototype on show will go into series production, at least in small series.

At the upcoming FAT Ice Race in Zell am See, Austria, on 1 February, Ineos Automotive will present the prototype of a Grenadier on portal axles. The iconic event on snow and ice tracks attracts several thousand visitors - and provides great entertainment. But let's take a closer look at the Ineos vehicle...

To take the off-road capabilities of the Grenadier Station Wagon and Quartermaster pick-up to a new level, renowned German off-road specialist LeTech GmbH & Co. KG - a trading partner of Ineos Automotive - gave the vehicles a raised chassis with portal axles and offset wheel hubs.

This allowed the ground clearance to be increased by 250 millimetres to 514 millimetres and the fording depth from 800 to 1,050 millimetres. Larger off-road tyres complete the modifications. The prototype will become a vehicle that can actually be purchased. Interested parties can register on the following website:

The website also states: "We are introducing the Grenadier Station Wagon and Quartermaster with portal axles that increase ground clearance and fording depth. With the Grenadier's "Built for More" DNA, this vehicle takes advantage of the highly customisable ladder chassis and body-on-frame construction. The portal axles take off-road capability and extreme durability to a new level. Versions of this vehicle are already being used by professional service companies across Europe.

Since its unveiling at Goodwood in July 2024, interest in this vehicle has been high. On the drive side, the in-line six-cylinder engines from BMW are likely to be used, which Ineos already installs as petrol and diesel engines in the normal Grenadier. They produce 286 PS (petrol) and 249 PS (diesel) respectively.
