Mercedes brings IMAX cinema to its cars at CES 2025
The RIDEVU service will make it possible to watch thousands of films in IMAX format on new-generation Mercedes.
At CES Las Vegas 2025, Mercedes is unveiling a new in-car entertainment feature. In collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, IMAX Corporation and DTS Inc, the German manufacturer has announced the integration of RIDEVU, Sony's in-car entertainment service, which will be available on all Mercedes models equipped with the latest generation of the MBUX system.
But what exactly does this new feature entail? Let's find out.
Like the cinema in your car
From summer 2025, Mercedes users will be able to access Sony Pictures' IMAX Enhanced film library, with the possibility of seeing films such as "Venom: The Last Dance", "Spider-Man: No Way Home" or "Uncharted". Thanks to the IMAX Enhanced format, it will be possible to enjoy the extended aspect ratio, IMAX's own DMR process and immersive DTS:X sound, all optimised for in-car viewing.
The RIDEVU service will initially be available to Mercedes customers in the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Japan, and Germany. Thanks to full integration with the MBUX system, customers will be able to buy, rent or view thousands of films directly from their car.
The driver will only be able to access the content when the vehicle is stationary (for example, when stopping to recharge the battery), but front and rear passengers will be able to enjoy the films during the journey. What's more, the content will be available both on the car's integrated screens (such as those on the Hyperscreen infotainment system) and on compatible iOS and Android devices.
Finally, RIDEVU's Screen Manager function allows easy control of playback on up to six integrated screens, allowing passengers to enjoy individual or shared experiences.
