The new model from DS is to be called "Numero 8"

To be more precise: DS N°8. Can anyone remember that?

Will this car finally help the Stellantis brand DS to achieve greater sales success? A few weeks before the launch of the important new model, DS Automobiles presents a new naming strategy, and it will not be called DS 8 as expected, but "No. 8" (pronounced "DS Numéro Huit" in French). N° is the French abbreviation for Numéro (number).

This strategy combines the names of the existing model range with those of the brand's future models, whereby the numbers are retained and the "N°" (number) represents a "bold logic" according to DS. This strategy is combined with an emphatically self-confident brand presence, with a striking badge on the front and the full DS Automobiles lettering on the back of the vehicle.

The introduction of the "N°" badge heralds a new generation of DS Automobiles models and represents a significant development, at least officially. The future product range of DS Automobiles will follow this new naming strategy. The number will correspond to the size and segment of the model.

In order to preserve the brand's identity, the rear of the vehicle will bear the lettering "N°8", which will be supplemented by "DS AUTOMOBILES". This separate branding ensures a clear separation between the brand and the model and at the same time points the way to the electric future.

The DS 8, sorry... DS Numero 8 will be the brand's new flagship from 2025. The first official images show a mix of SUV and saloon, combined with certain design elements of the DS 4. Number 8 is likely to use the Stellantis Group's STLA medium platform.

This means a length of around 4.70 metres and an electric range of up to 460 miles. But also a 48V petrol engine and plug-in hybrid. Other models based on STLA Medium include the new Opel-Vauxhall Grandland, the future Citroën C5 Aircross and the Lancia Gamma planned for 2026. Will there be enough of a gap for the DS?

However, even before the interior of the DS N°8 can be seen in detail, DS Automobiles reveals the outline of the dashboard. Quote: "The purity of the boat-inspired design perfectly combines a high level of technology and expertise. The door panelling envelops the occupants and incorporates the sound system and lighting in an innovative way. The spectacular lighting emphasises the airy design of the dashboard, which seems to float and conveys a sense of serenity."
