The Smart range is set to expand with at least one new model. After the #1 and #3, the #5 will arrive in 2025, an adventurous crossover capable of rapid recharging and a fair amount of power.

Also in 2025, we might have some more information on the return of the Fortwo, with Smart working on its heir.

Smart #5

The Smart #5 will be the biggest Smart ever. It is a crossover with a length of 4.71 metres and a wheelbase of 2.90 metres, with boxy styling and an adventure-oriented philosophy. In fact, there are several details and accessories designed for off-road driving, such as underbody protection, a roof light bar, and side hooks.

The interior of the Smart #5 boasts innovations such as zero-gravity seats, 256-colour ambient lighting, and a premium audio system, while the 800-volt electric architecture will enable a 10 per cent to 80 per cent recharge of the 100 kWh battery in about 15 minutes. The claimed range is 460 miles in the Chinese CLTC cycle, while the engines planned for Europe have not been announced.

In other markets, however, the #5 will be sold with power outputs of between 340 bhp and 363 bhp in the case of single-engine versions and 595 bhp or 646 bhp for variants with twin engines and all-wheel drive.

What do you think?

Yes, in 2025 there could be a return to Smart's roots, with the long-awaited successor to the Fortwo. An ultra-compact, electric-only model that could be called #2, to follow the brand's new nomenclature. Very little is known about it, so much so that in an exclusive interview a few weeks ago Dirk Adelmann (CEO of smart Europe) said that a decision on the "new Fortwo" would be taken shortly.

Given the great demand in Italy (and elsewhere), however, there is cause for optimism. Not least because it seems that Smart has been working for some time now on a platform dedicated precisely to this model called Electric Compact Architecture. All that remains is to wait for more information from the company, with a possible presentation that could take place in late 2025.
