The Cadillac Escalade has become the most high-profile, potent member of the storied General Motors luxury brand. Proof can be found in the name itself, which hasn’t succumb to the alphanumeric-isms of the rest of the Caddy line up. The CT6 may be a perfectly wonderful luxury car, but its name will hardly inspire pop lyrics.  

And, frankly, after a week in the current Escalade, I find its position at the top of the brand to be well deserved. The SUV has always competed well with contemporaries from other luxury brands, but typically the comparison leaned on Cadillac’s slightly more reasonable pricing to really hit home. These days, though the Escalade is still price competitive, the truck’s powertrain, ride, interior accouterments, and styling are all at or above the pace set by the Germans and Japanese.
