Video: Chris Harris Wrings the Porsche 918

Our first reaction to the latest edition of /Drive, was "SON-OF-A-$(%#*@@!!!" What can Chris Harris NOT get access to? We'd love to know. But as we learned more, we learned that even the illustrious Harris does not get unfettered access to the Porsche 918. He is limited to three laps, like all of the other elite journalists. Oh wait, that is still three more laps than we get in the 918..."SON-OF-A-$(%**@@!!" Here are the hard numbers: 608 horsepower from a 4.6-liter V8. Combined with the electric power, the Porsche 918 makes a total of 887 horsepower and 920 lb-ft of torque. This in a car that is just over 3600 pounds. Yum.
Ok, so 0-60 in a scant 2.8 seconds, 0-124 in 7.98 seconds. That's all good, but the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari can each pull that second feat off in under seven seconds. Harris made two conclusions. The first; "When I'm pushing on, it doesnt feel like a hybrid, it feels like a mid-engine sportscar." The second; "I get out and keep wondering what it would be like without all the electric motors and batteries." Amen. Brother.
