When you buy a new Land Rover, it’ll be covered by a 4-year/50,000-mile factory warranty. After that warranty expires, however, you could find yourself on the hook for expensive repairs unless you purchase a Land Rover extended warranty. Land Rover vehicles have some reliability issues, so this may be a real concern.

With 1,475 hours of research backing our team, we’ve extensively investigated Land Rover’s vehicle service contract to determine whether it’s a strong choice for owners. We’ve also ranked the best extended warranty companies and will provide third-party alternatives to the Land Rover extended warranty.

Land Rover Extended Warranty Review

Land Rover only offers one manufacturer-backed extended warranty plan to consumers. While it’s a comprehensive, exclusionary protection plan, this plan won’t suit the needs for vehicle owners looking for powertrain or mid-level coverages. The Land Rover extended warranty is only available for purchase within your new vehicle limited warranty coverage limits.

The Land Rover extended warranty is a solid choice for model owners looking for comprehensive coverage backed by the automaker itself. However, if you’re looking for more flexible coverage terms and a variety of plan levels, a third-party manufacturer may be a better choice for your needs.

Land Rover Extended Warranty Coverage

Through our research, the standard Land Rover vehicle protection plan provides coverage for up to seven years or 100,000 miles. This means you can receive an extra three years or 50,000 miles of coverage on top of your car’s factory warranty. Land Rover extended warranties include but are not limited to coverage for the following vehicle parts:

  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Drive axles
  • Transfer case
  • Braking system
  • Steering system
  • Suspension
  • Cooling system
  • Air conditioning
  • Electrical system
  • Turbocharger/supercharger
  • Catalytic converter

Land Rover’s official landing page for its extended warranty doesn’t offer a detailed breakdown of parts covered. While our team was able to uncover some details from a brochure offered by Land Rover of Atlanta, warranty provisions may be up to the Land Rover dealer. Contact your local Land Rover dealership for specifics about exactly which parts your coverage plan will protect.

Land Rover Extended Warranty Perks

All Land Rover extended warranties guarantee that your car will be repaired by factory-trained automotive technicians using genuine Land Rover parts. Other benefits of the Land Rover extended warranty include:

Land Rover Warranty PerkDetails
24-Hour Roadside AssistanceServices include emergency towing, battery jump-starts, lockout services, fuel and fluid deliveries, and flat tire assistance.
Rental Car ReimbursementYou’re provided up to $50 per day for a maximum of 10 days if you need a rental car while your vehicle is getting a covered repair.
Transferrable CoverageYour Land Rover extended warranty is fully transferable to a new owner if you sell your vehicle.
Travel ProtectionWhile details are sparse, Land Rover advertises travel protection while abroad if you decide to bring your car with you.

If you’re not satisfied with your Land Rover vehicle service contract, you can cancel your contract for free within the first 30 days of coverage. If you cancel after the first 30 days, you’ll need to pay a $50 cancellation fee.

Land Rover Extended Warranty Exclusions

Extended coverage from Land Rover takes care of most parts, but it excludes the following:

  • Wear-and-tear parts like brake pads and windshield wiper blades
  • Damage caused by car accidents, instances of theft or vandalism, and bad weather
  • Upholstery, tires, and interior trim
  • Issues caused by owner neglect or misuse
  • Routine maintenance such as oil changes or tire rotations
  • Parts already covered by the factory or certified pre-owned (CPO) warranty

Land Rover Maintenance Plans

While a Land Rover extended warranty doesn’t cover routine maintenance, the automaker provides a plan for purchase to help you stay on top of the factory-recommended intervals. Services with this plan include oil changes, brake fluid replacement, battery checks, tire inspections, and more.

If you choose to purchase the Prepaid Maintenance Plus plan, you’ll receive additional coverage for your brake pads, brake wear sensors, and windshield wiper blades. Coverage for both plans is only for purchase before your Land Rover’s first service.

Land Rover Extended Car Warranty Price

Through our research, we found that Land Rover extended warranties can cost up to $5,870 for 7 years or 100,000 miles of coverage. Keep in mind that comprehensive coverage for some models, especially more expensive ones, may cost more. Because of this, the Range Rover Sport may have a different price for extended coverage than the Discovery Sport.

However, most consumers report paying less than that. In December 2023, our research team conducted a survey of 1,000 drivers with manufacturer extended warranties. We didn’t get many respondents with Land Rover coverage, so in January 2024, we launched another survey specifically targeting high-income drivers with manufacturer extended warranties and were able to connect with 20 drivers with Land Rover extended warranty coverage. Of those 20 drivers, 45 percent reporting paying between $2,000 and $3,000 for coverage. Just one driver paid over $5,000.

It’s a small sample size, but these reports led us to believe that Land Rover extended warranty coverage may not be expensive as you are expecting.

One survey respondent with a Range Rover Sport said, “I’m very satisfied with the warranty coverage for my Range Rover Sport. It’s extremely well-planned, and I think it’s a great value and peace of mind.”

After spending over 1,475 hours of research on extended warranties, our team found that the average cost for a third-party extended coverage plan is $3,026 in total. This average was calculated using quotes from the top eight third-party providers in our industry-wide review, using some of the most popular makes and models on the road today. See the table below for a total cost breakdown by extended warranty type:

Coverage LevelTotal Cost
Exclusionary$3,124
Mid-Level$3,060
Powertrain2,893

Experts at Edmunds.com suggest that dealers often mark up extended warranties by $200 to $500, which explains why they’re often pricier than third-party offerings. Land Rovers are also considered luxury vehicles, so this influences the price of manufacturer-backed coverage. Your actual extended warranty costs will vary based on factors such as your chosen coverage level, coverage length, deductible, vehicle age, mileage, and more.

Is A Land Rover Extended Warranty Worth It?

Unfortunately, Land Rover auto repairs can be quite costly. Land Rover owners spend an average of $1,174 per year to keep their vehicles on the road. This is 80 percent more than the industry average of $652 per year. Let’s take a look at some potential repair costs for a 2017 Land Rover Range Rover based on RepairPal data:

  • Head gasket replacement: $3,127 to $3,713
  • Water pump replacement: $975 to $1,173
  • Transmission replacement: Over $5,000

Repairs for other Land Rover models are similarly expensive. If something major breaks, such as the transmission, you could be on the hook for a hefty bill. However, if your Land Rover breaks down while it’s under a Land Rover factory warranty or extended warranty, most repair costs could be covered.

Land Rover Reliability

Director of Marketing at Endurance, Jessica Campbell, says, “Whether or not an auto protection plan or extended warranty is ‘worth it’ largely depends on a vehicle owner’s needs and the quality of the vehicle itself.”

Land Rover’s reliability ranking across several industry studies doesn’t make a good case for the quality of the brand. RepairPal ranks Land Rover 31st out of 32 brands for reliability and gives it 2.5 out of 5.0 stars. The automaker also ranks last of 32 car brands in the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study℠. Even Land Rover’s sister brand Jaguar ranks slightly better.

RepairPal’s study showed that Land Rover models land in the repair shop for unscheduled repairs about 0.7 times per year compared to an industry average of 0.4 times. A total of 16 percent of needed repairs were classified as “severe” compared to 12 percent across all car brands.

Land Rover New Vehicle Limited Warranty

If your Land Rover model is still covered under its factory warranty and you don’t plan on keeping it beyond those limits, you likely won’t need an extended Land Rover warranty. Each new Land Rover is covered by a 4-year/50,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty.

Coverage is exclusionary, meaning that the bumper-to-bumper warranty will take care of the vast majority of car parts. Whether you have a powertrain issue or one that has to do with your Land Rover’s infotainment system, the new car warranty will likely cover it. Land Rover also includes a 6-year/unlimited-mileage corrosion perforation warranty and a government-mandated emissions warranty on all new cars.

Land Rover has a pretty short new vehicle warranty, especially with regard to its powertrain warranty. Given how expensive Land Rover repair costs usually are, it may be a good idea to purchase a Land Rover extended warranty when your initial coverage expires.

Land Rover Roadside Assistance

Land Rover owners also receive four years of complimentary roadside assistance. This includes 24/7 roadside services such as towing, flat-tire changes, fuel deliveries, lockout services, and battery jump-starts.

Land Rover’s roadside assistance benefits include trip interruption protection if the breakdown occurs more than 50 miles from home. In addition, Land Rover has a retailer mobile technician program. If your breakdown occurs close to a Land Rover retailer, the company will dispatch an authorized technician to help out.

Extended Warranty Options For Land Rovers

Many third-party warranty providers don’t cover Land Rover or other luxury vehicles. Repairs can simply be too expensive. However, Carchex and Endurance are two of the most popular third-party warranty companies in our latest extended warranty consumer survey that offer protection on Land Rovers.

Bar graph depicting the four most popular extended auto warranty companies, as reported by respondents in our 2023 customer survey.

We secret shopped with more than 40 independent extended warranty providers and found average monthly rates to be between $120 and $135 across many popular makes and models. The total price of a warranty varies but averages around $3,000, according to our research. Because Land Rovers are luxury vehicles, the price may be higher than our industry averages.

Carchex: Best For Used Cars

In our review of the best car warranty providers, we gave Carchex the award of Best for Used Cars. This is thanks to the company’s five coverage options that cover cars up to 20 years old.

Carchex is backed by industry experts such as Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds, proving itself to have a positive reputation in the industry. It also holds an A+ rating and accreditation with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Thanks to its range of plans and excellent reputation, we believe that Carchex’s vehicle warranties are a solid coverage option for most Land Rover owners.

Endurance: Best Coverage

We’ve awarded Endurance with the best overall score in our review and recognized it for having the Best Coverage. It has six plans to choose from, including a plan that offers maintenance benefits along with mechanical breakdown coverage. This provider even has mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI) for California residents, which is rare in the industry.

What makes Endurance a great choice for Land Rovers is its Highline plan. This coverage add-on, which can be added to its highest level of coverage, covers a range of luxury models.

Land Rover Extended Warranties: Conclusion

If you’re interested in getting a Land Rover extended warranty backed by the manufacturer, you’ll need to contact the nearest Land Rover retailer. However, there are many more third-party warranty providers such as Carchex and Endurance that can provide you with vehicle coverage and services at your local repair facility versus a dealership. We recommend searching around and comparing offers from the best car warranty companies to find the best deal.

Land Rover Extended Auto Warranty: FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions about Land Rover extended warranties:

What does the Land Rover extended warranty cover?

The extended warranty plan for Land Rover provides protection for your vehicle’s most important systems for up to 7 years or 100,000 miles. However, more detailed information about coverage varies by dealership. Call your local Land Rover dealer for more specific details about what the warranty covers.

How much does the Land Rover extended warranty cost?

Through our research, we found that the Land Rover extended warranty can cost up to $5,870 with the choice of a $100 deductible. However, many consumers report paying less than that, with 45 percent Land Rover extended warranty holders we surveyed reporting paying between $2,000 and $3,000. Exact pricing varies depending on the dealership and the model of your vehicle.

In 2023, we surveyed 1,000 drivers across the nation who had purchased vehicle service contracts from automakers. Respondents were of a variety of ages and occupations. Here’s how much drivers reported paying for extended protection across many makes and models:

  • 15 percent paid under $1,000
  • 30 percent paid between $1,000 and $2,000
  • 22 percent paid between $2,000 and $3,000
  • 25 percent paid above $3,000
  • The remainder weren’t sure what they paid

Because a Land Rover is a luxury vehicle, you should expect costs to be high for coverage.

Is the Land Rover extended warranty worth it?

Land Rovers are some of the least reliable cars on the market and can have hefty repair costs. Getting an extended warranty from the company would pay for expensive part breakdowns and give you peace of mind. However, this extended coverage is unnecessary if you’re already protected under your factory warranty.
