The 12 best cash-back and cut-rate financing deals for July 2017, as rich as 30 percent off MSRP or zero percent interest.
Following what some reports suggest was a disappointing Fourth of July weekend in terms of new-car sales, automakers are ramping up their cash and financing incentives to officially begin their late-summer clearance promotions. Ford, Hyundai, and Jeep are among the most aggressive in this regard, slapping large wads of cash on the hoods of virtually their entire model lines this month, though we found some decent deals being offered by virtually every brand running through the end of the month.

How rich are the deals? We uncovered cash-back offers as generous as $8,500 on some big trucks, and nearly that much slashed off the sticker prices of some mid-priced family sedans. The midsize Hyundai Sonata affords the biggest discount percentage-wise, with a rebate of up to $6,750 on a car that starts at around $22,000. That’s as much as 30% off the MSRP, and that’s before whittling down the transaction price even further through careful negotiation.
We’re featuring the 12 biggest rebates below – all of them are at least $4,500 – with each offering either a cut-rate financing deal as an alternative or a combination of a smaller cash-back offer combined with a discounted interest rate. The best offer in the latter regard is on the full-size Chrysler 300 sedan, where astute shoppers can take advantage of as much as $5,250 cash back or $3,500 cash and 0.0% financing. (As always, low financing rates quoted are typically granted only to buyers having top credit scores, and tend to favor the most expensive models; if your credit is anything less you’ll pay a higher rate, which usually makes taking the rebate a better choice.)
We’ve checked multiple zip codes to ensure these are national deals, but they still may vary somewhat from one part of the U.S. to another, given local supply and demand factors, so be sure to check manufacturers’ websites to see what’s available in your area.
12. Jeep Cherokee
Up to $4,500 cash back or $500 cash and 0.0% financing for 60 months.
The Cherokee is a stylish and capable compact crossover SUV, and like all of Jeep’s models, can actually be quite off-road capable when fitted with the proper 4x4 system. It’s had its problems, most notably regarding its busy-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission, but it’s otherwise more entertaining to drive than many more-passive crossovers.
Up to $4,500 cash back.
The Clubman is larger than the typical MINI, coming with four doors, a useable rear seat, and a split barn-door-type hatchback at the rear that makes loading and unloading easier in tight urban environments. It’s also a hoot to drive, with a choice of peppy, but efficient, engines and precise sports-car-like handling.
10. Volvo S90
Up to $4,500 cash back.
Volvo’s new-for-2017 flagship sedan is again being offered with hefty rebates to help ignite what have so far been disappointing sales. As befits the brand, it’s loaded with standard safety features that include a low-speed auto-braking system that engages to prevent collisions with other cars, bicyclists, and pedestrians; high-speed auto-braking and other crash-avoidance systems are optional. Note that the same deal is being offered on the midsize Volvo XC60 crossover SUV.
9. Volvo XC60
Up to $4,500 cash back.
Volvo's midsize crossover SUV gets the same cash-back deal as the above S90 sedan, and it's in the sweet spot of the people-moving market. As with the rest of Volvo's line it's handsome and comfortable and offers a wide array of the latest safety features,
8. Ram 1500
Up to $4,750 cash back or up to $3,250 cash and 0.0% financing for 36 months.
FCA’s Ram truck brand and Chevrolet have been duking it out all year for second place sales supremacy behind Ford’s F-150, offering hefty rebates to encourage shoppers to replace their existing models. Fortunately for all three brands, pickups are their most profitable model lines, and they still make money even with big-money discounts like this.
7. Ford Taurus
$4,850 cash back or 3.9% financing for 84 months.
Sure, the full-size Taurus sedan has been around for too long in its current form and looks and feels like a taxicab, but it’s a fairly roomy and substantial ride being offered with deep discounts. Other than for the dwindling number of motorists who otherwise prefer the feel of a big car, the Taurus would make a safe and sane choice to buy for a college age son or daughter to ensure he or she both won’t get into trouble, and would be sufficiently protected in the event of a collision.
6. Ford F-150
Up to $5,250 cash back or 5.9% financing for 84 months.
The sales leader among all vehicle types obviously doesn’t hold that position solely on the basis of its burly good looks. Sweetening the deal with big-buck rebates certainly doesn’t hurt, and ensures the factories will keep humming and dealers won’t get stuck with excess inventory as the end of the current model year approaches.
5. Chrysler 300
Up to $5,250 cash back or up to $3,500 cash and 0.0% financing for 60 months.
Here’s another big car in what’s become the incredible shrinking new-vehicle segment. Buyers seem to prefer larger SUVs and crossovers these days over sedans, but the 300 is one of the best, with a handsome exterior, roomy interior, choice of V6 and V8 engines, and a sportier rear-drive feel.
Up to $6,000 cash back or up to $1,500 cash and 0.9% financing for 72 months.
An entry that tends to get lost in the shuffle among compact crossover SUVs, the Santa Fe Sport is among the most plain-vanilla of the bunch, but it’s not without its merits. Starting at around $26,000, the six-grand cash-back deal translates into as much as 23 percent off the sticker price.
Up to $6,750 cash back or 0.0% financing for 60 months.
Another killer offer from Hyundai, the midsize Sonata sedan is distinctively styled, is adequately roomy and comfortable, and offers a choice of naturally aspirated or turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The $6,750 cash back deal is the richest this month among passenger cars, and as noted above amounts to as much as a 30 percent discount off the top.
$7,500 cash back or 2.9% financing for 84 months.
What’s already been one of the biggest cash-back deals in recent months, Ford ups the ante with an even more-generous rebate on the remaining stock of its full-size truck-based SUV in anticipation of a full redesign coming for 2017. It’s a big and lumbering beast, and is best suited for workman-like needs or for large families and/or those who need to tow a large boat or trailer to the lake or campsite.
Up to $8,500 cash back or 0.0% financing for 60 months.
Though it’s not as rich as the $10,000 rebate we reported on Nissan’s heavy-duty full-size pickup line last month, the Titan XD still tops our best deals list for July with $8,500 cash back on the top Platinum Reserve model. The Titan is an otherwise worthy entry in what’s the last automotive segment still to be dominated by the Big-Three domestic automakers, who enjoy fiercely brand-loyal buyers. If the nameplate doesn’t matter to you, take the money and drive.
