The compact Honda CR-V gets near-identical fuel economy to its smaller showroom sibling, the HR-V, when equipped with its available 1.5-liter turbo-four engine (it’s rated at 26/32 mpg with the 2.4-liter four that comes with the base model); a CVT automatic transmission is standard. The CR-V gets one fewer mpg either way with AWD. Several of the latest accident avoidance systems are included on all but the base version. Annual fuel costs are projected at $1,450 with the 1.5 turbo, and $1,550 with the 2.4-liter engine.
