Being Scandinavian and all, Volvo has a history of exceptional interior design, and the XC40 continues that tradition with its delightfully unique choice of materials. Yes, there are the requisite leather and soft touch plastic surfaces, but my eyes and fingertips were drawn to the aluminum grid inlays on the dash and doors, and the short-cut, berber-like carpeting that lines the door pockets. The latter feels like carpet squares from kindergarten, which you might think is misplaced in a luxury vehicle like this, but it makes the XC40 all the more charming instead.
