One of the earliest automotive nicknames is the Tin Lizzie, carried with pride by Ford’s legendary Model T. The name is thought to have originated in 1922 from a race where one of the cars was a not-at-all-pretty Model T named Old Liz. People at the race nicknamed it Tin Lizzie, and when the beat-up car actually won, the name went viral – or at least the 1920’s version of viral.
