The late 1960s and first couple years of the 1970s were the height of the American muscle car. When combined with the rising popularity of NASCAR, the result was some of the wildest vehicles to ever hit the track in the series. The massive wings on the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona and 1970 Plymouth Superbird were arguably the pinnacle of this symbiotic development between on-road performance and track-focused speed.

Pete Hamilton won the Daytona 500 in a Superbird in 1970 while racing for Petty Enterprises.
