The three-row Subaru Ascent is a lot more vehicle than I need for a road trip to transport my wife and dog, but I have more selfish reasons for wanting to take the Ascent on a journey – the powertrain

My wife's daily driver is a 2012 Outback, and she's holding out to replace it until Subaru offers a turbocharged version. Until the company actually sells one, the Ascent is the next best thing, so I really want to try it out.

After checking out the Ascent at a few auto shows, I think the cabin would be perfectly comfy for my whole family. My wife and I would connect our phones to the infotainment system to enjoy our multiple '80s music mixes on Spotify. With all of the seats down, there would be plenty of room for our corgi to roam, and I know he'd love the panoramic sunroof, too.
