The former smallest SUV in Audi's lineup has received a nip and tuck for the new model year.
Spy photos from May have shown Audi is already hard at work preparing the second-generation Q3, but until the new model's arrival it obviously wants to keep sales numbers of the current one at a high and steady level. That’s why it has prepared yet another facelift for its plush crossover which is no longer the smallest high-riding Audi now that the Q2 is out and about.
In a bid to make it look sharper than before, Audi’s designers have given the Q3 a slightly more aggressive front end for the sport trim which will come from now on with enlarged air inlets. In addition, the corporate singleframe grille will be painted in stone gray, while the blade located beneath the center inlet is going to be color-coordinated with the body. The model year change sees the demise of the “Tundra Brown” color, but instead Audi is adding a new hue called “Camouflage Green.”
For an even more dynamic look, the new S line exterior package will add some pizzaz to the luxury crossover thanks to the diamond-pattern inserts on the air inlets. In this specification, the Q3 will be visually distinguished by its new front skirt and the high-gloss black treatment for the radiator grille and air inlets.
Coinciding with the 2017MY’s launch is a new Q3 S line competition special edition inspired by the aforementioned S line exterior package. It has received a bunch of black accents on the door trim strips, side mirror caps, roof rails, and window slot trim, along with a glossy black appearance for the roof-mounted spoiler and the lower area of the rear bumper. As a final touch, Audi has created new 19-inch glossy-black wheels and has added a couple of “S line” badges on the front fenders to remind everyone it’s not the run-of-the-mill Q3.
Stepping inside the cabin, the Q3 S line competition gets sport seats with lumbar support as standard equipment and these come with a black leather and fabric finish adorned by the “S line” logo embossed in the center. Those willing to spend more can go for the optional Alcantara & Fine Nappa leather interior. A bunch of “S line” logos and stainless steel finishes boost the version’s appeal even further, and Audi will also install a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel covered in leather.
Besides the visual tweaks, the Q3 S line competition will also have some hardware upgrades available as standard, including the S line sport suspension and the Audi drive select system. The good news is you won’t have to go for the top-spec engines to get this new version because Audi says it will offer the model with all of the units available in the crossover’s lineup.
Scheduled to go on sale this fall across Europe, the revised Audi Q3 will be available at the same prices as the outgoing model and will kick off at €30,100. The newly added Q3 S line competition is going to set you back at least €33,050. We will likely see the updated Q3 range next month during the Paris Motor Show, so watch this space for some live pics.
