Mercedes-AMG has initiated the teasing game for its upcoming new model, the GT C Roadster. The name of the model was disclosed towards the end of July in a roadmap showing future products. It’s unclear at this point what the ‘C’ stands for, but for what it’s worth we know the coupe will receive a similar version in 2017.

Updated Mercedes-Benz 2017 roadmap

The teaser video reveals the silhouette of the high-performance cabriolet that will eschew the coupe’s fixed metal roof in favor of an electrically retractable soft top. Recent spy images have shown the trunk lid is going to be wider in order to accommodate the roof when folded. In addition, the reshaped trunk lid will also integrate the third brake light, which on the coupe sits up high on the rear window.

-AMG has also made some changes to the rear bumper, which is going to incorporate a horizontal slat located between the taillights. While the standard GT and GT S coupes don’t have it, the meaner GT R Coupe features a similar opening in the rear bumper. Based on this, one could speculate the C will bridge the gap between the S and R versions of the lineup.

If this assumption turns out to be true, the C models are going to be more powerful than the S versions, but at the same time still weaker than the mighty R. Besides the power bump, the C models could also come with a weight loss that probably won’t be as drastic as on the R, which is 199 pounds (90 kilograms) lighter than the S.

We won’t have to wait too long to find out, as the Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster is going to be introduced late this month at the Paris Motor Show. It will go on sale next year when it will be joined by the equivalent coupe.
