Rogue in North America and X-Trail in Europe are due for a Murano-inspired upgrade.
The refreshed 2017 Nissan Rogue, known as the X-Trail in much of the rest of the world, has debuted in a surprising place. Rather than premiering the updated crossover at a major auto show, the facelift appeared first in a joint commercial from Nissan and ESPN for their Heisman House contest. Get a brief look at the CUV on the left side at the beginning of the ad (above).
The refreshed Rogue takes clear cues from the front end of the latest Murano. The design features a broader V-shaped grille that comes far closer to headlights. It also appears to stretch further down the nose. The lower fascia looks wider thanks to new horizontal foglights.
Earlier spy shots already showed many of these changes on the 2017 Rogue, but camouflage hid the details. While we can’t see the back of the updated crossover in this commercial, the photos indicate changes for the rear bumper and taillights. The hatch’s styling should remain almost identical, though.
We don’t know about the specific tweaks for the 2017 Rogue’s interior yet, but the brand’s recent updates for the Sentra, Altima, and Pathfinder tells us what to expect. When the refresh debuts, look more upholstery updates and infotainment tweaks. Nissan already added a bevy of available safety tech for the 2016 model year, including Blind Spot Warning, Forward Emergency Braking, and Siri Eyes Free.
The 2017 Rogue likely retains its 2.5-liter four-cylinder, but there’s a possibility a hybrid could join the powertrain range. Nissan revealed the X-Trail Hybrid for Japan last year, and an exec hinted the option might also arrive in the U.S. The setup combined a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor and a CVT.
Since Nissan sees no reason to hide the Rogue in this ad, we suspect an official debut should be imminent. An introduction before the end of the year wouldn’t be too surprising.
