With the demise of the SLS AMG a few years ago, Mercedes no longer has a car with gullwing doors, but hopefully the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept is a sign these will make a comeback at one point. In a teaser released minutes ago on Facebook, the super-long coupe shows more of its skin, including a sloped roofline along with a rounded rear end featuring a pair of slender taillights.

Overall, the car’s design seems to evoke the streamlined exteriors of cars from the 1930s and it appears to be riding on massive wheels featuring a red finish to match the body’s appearance. At almost six meters (19.7 feet) long, the coupe is just as imposing as the one-off Exelero from 12 years ago, but comes instead with a more curvaceous body which we find to be more appealing.

It’s too soon to say whether a production version is on the agenda, but perhaps the concept is a preview of an ultra-luxurious coupe set to be positioned above the S-Class Coupe and go up against the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept will celebrate its premiere on Thursday at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. A few of our colleagues will be attending the show, so check back for some live images of the flamboyant coupe.
