The McLaren 688 High Sport (HS) originally made its Internet debut towards the end of May when several renders emerged, showing the model will be based on the sold-out 675 LT. The limited-run special edition from MSO is now making a comeback and this time around we bring a real photo of the car sitting in front of another McLaren.

Compared to the regular long-tailed 675, the new HS is going to receive a roof scoop and several aerodynamic bits, among which we should mention a large rear wing derived from the track-only 650S GT3. The carbon fiber winglets mounted on the sides of the front apron also appear to be adapted from the race car, and there are probably other connections between the two vehicles.

As the name of the car implies, the latest hardcore McLaren is expected to offer 688 PS (678 hp / 506 kW) from an evolution of the very familiar biturbo 3.8-liter V8 engine. Aside from packing more punch, the limited-run HS could lose some weight compared to the 675 LT thanks to a more extensive use of carbon fiber.

With slightly more power, better aero, and a light diet, the 688 HS is expected to be quicker in the 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) than the ‘regular’ 675 LT which completes the task in only 2.9 seconds.

Information about pricing is not available at this point, but you can imagine the 688 HS is more expensive than the 675 LT of which 500 units have been made for $349,500 a pop. The thing is, even if you have the means to buy one, it’s probably too late. It is believed McLaren is making only 25 units and all of them have already been spoken for, even though the car has not been officially revealed yet.

Speaking of which, the premiere is likely scheduled for the Paris Motor Show which will open its doors on October 1. An online reveal could occur several days earlier. It remains to be seen whether the 688 HS will be coupe-only or it will also spawn a Spider version like the 675LT.
