Maserati Wants to Build a New Hypercar…Eventually
The Maserati MC12 was something special. It wielded a 6.0-liter V12 like the hammer of Thor, and wore a full racing suit from the factory, meaning it was ready to hit the track straight out of the box. And then like that, it was gone, never to be seen again, barring the occasional concours event. Production only lasted a year, 2004 to 2005. But even though Maserati’s foray into hypercar territory was short lived, that doesn’t mean that idea is off the table entirely for the future of the brand. At least, not according to Autocar, a publication we take with a grain of salt. RELATED: See Photos of the Maserati Tipo 975 Hypercar Concept
A new report says that Maserati CEO, Harald Wester, thinks another low-volume hypercar would be a good idea. Smart man. Specifically, Wester said they “could do a limited edition, but not yet.” That last part is a bit concerning.
Though Wester didn’t give a timeline as to the production of a possible new supercar, we do know that production of the handsome Alfieri coupe will likely come in 2018, if at all. Hopefully a more powerful sibling follows soon after that, and hopefully it looks something similar to the dramatic concept pictured here. After all, the MC12 wasn't exactly subtle itself.
