The 2002 Ford GT "Workhorse One" was the first running prototype for the original 2005-2006 Ford GT program. It was given its "Workhorse One" designation by the design and fabrication team, which used it primarily to evaluate the new GT's suspension.
Unlike the production car, which housed a supercharged 5.4-liter V8, the Workhorse One featured a 4.6-liter Ford V8, along with some other components plucked from Ford performance vehicles of the day, including a Mustang Cobra dashboard.
At the time of development, Carroll Shelby was brought on to the Ford team as a senior tech advisor. After the Ford GT went into production, this original Workhorse One development car was given to Carroll Shelby himself by Ford. It currently resides at the Shelby American headquarters in Las Vegas, Nevada.
