Divergent Microfactories Blade

3D printing has changed the way humanity creates objects for the past several years. When a company comes out to the car community that nobody has ever heard of and claims that they have 3d printed a car that has the ability to reach 60 mph in under two seconds., people listen. But what Divergent Microfactories really want people to focus on is the fact that they have created a sustainable manufacturing method that can dramatically cut emissions during automotive manufacturing processes.

The body of the single-seat prototype is made out of a composite material, and because non of the body panels of the car are load-bearing, or taking any weight, the body could essentially be made out of just about any material and made into almost any shape. Divergent used an example of making the body panels out of spandex and it would be totally possible because of the unique chassis architecture, underpinning anything from a sports car to a pickup truck. It is obvious that the shape of the Blade is aerodynamically focused and it is also noticeable that there are no extending mirrors off of the body. This may be an indicator that the Blade will be harnessing the use of reverse camera as well as other parking and safety features.

Other than the fact that the Microfactories Blade is a single-seat car, there has not been too much information released about what can be expected from the interior. Advanced technologies are expected to encapsulate the pilot, such as projected displays of speed and RPMs, high-tech navigation devices and entertainment systems, and luxurious materials to be used in the seat and steering wheel.

Divergent says that under the hood is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing a claimed 700 horsepower that can run on either gasoline or compressed natural gasses. The origin of the engine is unspecified but because the Blade weighs around 600 pounds less than a Lotus Elise, the power-to-weight ratio is roughly twice that of a Bugatti Veyron. Reaching 60 mph will take around two seconds.
