Toyota GT 86 Shelby 2000GT

Designed as a tribute to some of the great rally and racecars from the past 50 years, Toyota has created a fleet of six unique GT86 coupes, each transformed with classic liveries and retro styling cues. Each GT86 has been inspired by a different Toyota from the company’s history, including the 2000GT. The 2000GT is one of Toyota’s original sports cars and was masterminded by Carroll Shelby in the USA.

Toyota brought in vehicle vinyl specialist Motor Mode to reproduce some of the key elements from the original racing liveries of past Toyota racecars. New Rota wheels have been used in different finishes and colors to retain a retro look. Custom springs lower the cars’ ride height down by around 40 millimeters adding to the car’s control. The bonnet of the Toyota GT86 Shelby 2000GT is white and blue, as was the original racecar during the 1968 season. Besides the custom livery, the other exterior features remain the same in comparison to the stock Toyota GT86. The new wheels and lowered suspension add a very aggressive look to the GT86.

Interior features include the top of the line options available for the GT86, including the touchscreen Navigation system, surround sound speaker system and a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel. A 10-way adjustable driver’s seat adds to the comfort, especially when multiple people will be driving the car. Leather wraps the seats and door panels.

Retaining the same engine as a standard GT86, the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-four engine produces 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic gearbox, reaching 60 mph takes around six seconds. An electronically limited top speed is reached at 155 mph.
