Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

50 years ago Carroll Shelby had a groundbreaking idea: take a great, fun to drive pony car and transform it into a take-no-prisoners racing machine. The result was the 1965 Shelby GT350 Mustang. With Ford’s unveiling of a 21st century version of this legendary performer, the Dearborn-based automaker has created the ultimate blend of bleeding-edge technology and solid, sustainable horsepower.

Everything about this new Mustang is geared towards performance. This is evident in every aspect of its shape, from the way the hood has been re-sloped and lowered to the understated lip spoiler along the tail end of the deck lid. Ford engineers put in long hours devising new ways to increase downforce and draw heat away from the engine. The aggressively angled grill includes air intakes that draw oxygen past the radiator and across the front brakes. Vents in the front and inner fenders reduce turbulence in the wheel wells, directing it down and away from the car.

Like its outer skin, the new GT350’s cockpit has been reimagined from the ground up to maximize the driving experience. The seats alone are the product of countless hours of ergonomic research. As a result, they provide maximum support and comfort for both daily and performance driving.

A new flat bottom steering wheel enhances vehicle control and stays out of the driver’s way when getting in and out of the car. The color scheme has been deliberately darkened to avoid bright spots from sun glare and other potential distractions.

For those who prefer a little added comfort, the available Tech Pack adds leather accented seats, dual zone temperature control, and a Shaker Audio system for heart-racing high-fidelity sound.

One ways that the new GT350 breaks from its futuristic design is in using naturally aspirated engines; the owner can choose from 5.2 L, 3.7 L, and 2.3 L EcoBoost options. FYI, “naturally aspirated” is engineer-speak for “doesn’t have a turbo or supercharger.” This may seem an odd choice in today’s world. But, in fact, this gives the passengers something that most modern folks have never experienced: that high-revving feel of being launched forward as the engine hits its premium RPM level. With its blend of new-tech innovations and old-school wisdom, the new Mustang GT350 offers classic driving excitement in a forward-thinking package.
