Plymouth Deluxe Touring Sedan
The big hit of the 1930s was the “touring trunk,” an enclosed integral luggage compartment for sedans. Offered by many makes, they were originally top-loaders, although the convenience of a hinged full lid soon won out. These new models, usually called “touring sedans” and offered with two doors or four, gained immediate popularity. Plymouth introduced their first for 1935. By the following year, the Deluxe four-door touring outsold its trunkless “flatback” counterpart by 24 to one.
This Deluxe touring sedan enjoyed a fender-off, professional paint job in dark blue and a new tan mohair interior. It has new wide whitewall tires, new glass, new vinyl in the fabric top insert, and it runs and drives very well. More than 240,000 people made this the best-selling Plymouth style in 1936, helping the marque achieve its best year of that decade. Equipped with a heater and a luscious wood grain dashboard, it’s a passenger’s delight.
