De Tomaso Pantera

Alejandro De Tomaso built his first road car, the four-cylinder, mid-engine Vallelunga in 1963. Subsequent models included the 1966 to 1971 Mangusta and the 1971 to 1991 Pantera, both powered by mid-mounted, high performance Ford V-8 engines.

The body of the Pantera was designed by American Tom Tjaarda and built by Ghia in Italy. Although its mid-engine, exotic looks, and excellent performance qualify it for supercar status, the De Tomaso Pantera cost less than comparable Ferrari or Lamborghini and a large number were sold through Lincoln-Mercury dealers from 1971-1975.
