The new Thema marks a new chapter in Lancia's legendary history. The first global flagship that combines the best of two worlds, the Thema was designed based on the new Chrysler 300 created on the Chrysler Group LX rear wheel drive platform and has been marketed since the beginning of this year. Like the first Thema back in 1984, it competes in the most difficult and prestigious segment, striving to offer a genuine alternative.
The new Lancia Thema is the answer for those who seek a more personal exclusivity made of greater warmth, craftsmanship and character.
With a heritage of values in its DNA, Lancia appears to be favored over others for its ability to interpret this new world of exclusiveness and to meet the needs of a customer more attentive to technology, who demands not only a substantial product, but also a style with strong personality. And this is where the Lancia Thema steps in. This global flagship combines expertise and functionality all associated with the Chrysler brand, with the luxury of Poltrona Frau® leather interiors, the cocooning silence of the large Lancia's and the attention to detail that all express the best of Italian design.
On the front end, the grille merges the Lancia logo and the horizontal bars expressing precision and formal rigor into a single pattern. The chrome-plated finishes of the bars and the outline of the logo create a peculiar contrast inside the frame, also chrome-plated. The classic headlights with scalloped lower edge contain the innovative headlights with LED technology and the DRL (Daytime Running Light) function of semicircular shape for unmistakable and impressive road presence.
The profile of the new Thema is characterized by a high waistline that, together with the distribution of the three boxes and sculpted shapes, accentuates its classic and at the same time unmistakable proportions. The prominent front end joins with the lines of the roof to blend into the three-quarters of the back end where the unmistakable rear light clusters that complete its silhouette stand out. The marked angle of the windscreen guarantees an aerodynamic effect while the slim pillars enable the driver to benefit from excellent visibility.
The rear end features a built-in spoiler with the Lancia logo sitting proudly below it in the centre and the two harmoniously designed LED tail lights are linked by a chrome-plated fascia which underlines the class of the new flagship. Crossed by the vertical tail light clusters, the rear band of the Thema is embellished by a trim that connects the elements of the rear lights. The two chrome-plated exhaust tail pipes offer a stylistic reminder of the performance of the new Lancia flagship.
Designed to supply power and efficiency in town traffic and during long journeys, the new Lancia Thema offers two different 6-cylinder engine versions, all with automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The Pentastar V6 3.6 litre petrol engine delivers 286 HP, and has an 8-speed automatic transmission. The V6 3.0 litre diesel engine is available in two power levels: 190 HP and 239 HP, both with 5-speed automatic transmission.
The Pentastar V6 petrol engine designed by the Chrysler Group uses the most innovative technologies to comply with Euro 5 regulations that let it reach a power of 286 HP at 6,350 rpm with a maximum torque of 340 Nm at 4650 rpm. Its CO2 emissions are 219 g/km (combined cycle fuel consumption: 9.4 l/100 km). This equipment level allows the new Thema to achieve a top speed of 240 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. This result is also partly thanks to the new automatic ZF 8-speed gearbox.
The Euro 5 diesel engine - built by VM Motori and developed together with Fiat Powertrain - delivers 190 HP at 4000 rpm and 239 HP at 4000 rpm. The new 3.0 V6 engine is equipped with 5-speed automatic transmission. The 239 HP version has a maximum torque of 550 Nm at 1800-2800 rpm, while the 190 HP version has a maximum torque of 440 Nm at 1600-2800 rpm. The CO2 emissions total 185 g/km and combined cycle fuel consumption is 7.1 l/100km for both versions. This equipment level allows the New Thema to achieve a top speed of 230 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds (239 HP) and 9.7 seconds (190 HP).
Well-being on board means surrounding the driver and passengers with technologies that ensure their highest level of acoustic and climatic comfort. The need to turn the interior into a cocooned and encircling living room stems from this goal. To achieve this objective, the Thema is made with the most innovative construction technologies that significantly contribute to turning even the simplest daily commute into a travel experience. That is because a "great trip" is not just leaving and arriving, but is instead a continuous string of emotions.
In detail, the new Lancia Thema offers an innovative ultra-rigid structure originating from Chrysler Group architecture, designed for large saloons with rear-wheel drive. Designed as a single unit, the joining of the chassis with the upper structure of the car ensures the best driving and handling dynamics with all types of road surfaces and in all weather conditions. This is partly achieved by the innovative multi-link front and rear suspension system that ensures Gran Turismo performance as one might expect from a prestigious saloon built to be driven on European roads.
By maximizing the innovative, ultra-rigid structural design, the new Lancia Thema unveils a best-in-class noise level thanks to the adoption of many sound deadening elements: from the two underbody panels in a composite material and the acoustic windscreen with two panels to the laminated windows and triple-seal doors. The final result is an extremely quiet passenger compartment with virtually no external noise, with the motion of the car as it travels along the road barely perceptible.
