Shelby SuperCars Series 1

With its legendary pedigree, the Series I Roadster reprised Shelby’s 427 Cobra ethos of a light and tremendously fast American sports car. The aggressive bodywork was hand-fashioned from carbon-fiber, with all 249 cars finished in Silver Metallic. The sophisticated, racing-derived aluminum space-frame chassis was hand-built to racecar standards, mounting a four-wheel independent suspension with inboard rocker arm-actuated shock absorbers and huge ventilated disc brakes.

The Series I was powered by a 4.0-liter Aurora V-8, producing 320 bhp. With a weight of only 2,800 pounds, it offered near-perfect weight distribution, with its mid-front engine position and rear transaxle-mounted six-speed gearbox, in a light, nimble and very capable package.

This car was auctioned off by RM Auctions in March of 2011 at the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, Florida.

320 bhp, front-mid-mounted 4.0-liter DOHC 32-valve V-8 engine with fuel injection and GM electronic fuel and spark controls, six-speed manual gearbox in rear transaxle, four-wheel coil-over independent suspension, and ventilated four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. Wheelbase: 96.2"
