On the surface, it may seem like the 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia is merely window dressing: a public relations stunt like police cars in the United States that promote DARE programs. But that’s not the case with this particular police cruiser.

In Italy, Lambo police cars get worked hard. They are not cream puffs. The previous Lamborghini police car saw regular duty with the Rome cops. That model clocked nearly 87,000 miles in and around central and southern Italy. It also saw hard duty as part of an emergency medical transport detail. Lifesaving organs for transplant would be carried inside.

Police in Bologna also drove their Lambo cruiser for many miles. Painted in blue and white, over its four years of service it has racked up 62,000 miles. Neither Lamborghini police car has required anything other than routine service in spite of being super sports cars.

One challenge the designers of the 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia faced was the light bar on top of the car. It’s an additional element not part of the original design. It had to be aerodynamically enhanced because of the speeds that can be reached. Also, because of its flat design, blue LEDs envelop it for an enhanced visual presence when activated.

The body is an aluminum shell. Other police strobe lights have been placed in the front, rear and side for the most visibility. It has four sirens for enhanced audible warnings, too.

The 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia is fitted with a special video system that transmits data back to headquarters. It is used for speeding enforcement. The luggage compartment is also refrigerated for transporting human organs as needed.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia has a 560-horsepower V10 engine that can reach speeds of up to 203 mph.
